Gilt City NYC has $80 credits for Gilt Home for only $40 right now. The deal is on the NYC page, but since it’s on Gilt Home (their online shop), anyone can use it. Mad Men Banana Republic Line

As Mad Men Season 5 approaches, Banana Republic is partnering with AMC for the third year in a row to produce the Mad Men Collection. The line hits North American Banana Republic stores & online on Thursday, August 11, 2011.

The good news? If you’re looking to get a jump on the MadMen sale (of course you are!), Gilt Groupe is going to have a selection of the line two weeks early, as in today, starting a 9am PST. Here’s what Gilt Groupe had to say:

Gilt Taste: Food ‘Sample Sale’ Site from Gilt Groupe

Gilt Groupe finally launched Gilt Taste — a new sample sale site for foodies.

The official launch date of Gilt Taste beta was May 18 and promised to offer:

Artisan foods and fresh seasonal ingredients from around the world.
Recipes from chefs and culinary experts along with advice from farmers and artisans.
Stories from writers Ruth Reichl, Francis Lam and Melissa Clark.
reduced shipping of $9.95 during the beta launch.

As usual, I did a few comparisons. Comparison #1: John & Kira Bee Chocolates $29 for 9 pieces — the same price as directly from John & Kira. Comparison #2: Hama Hama Blue Pool Oysters at $38 for 2 dozen — also the same price as directly from Hama Hama. Verdict: While it seems like Gilt’s newest site is all about deals since all of their other sites are in the sample sale vein, Gilt Taste is more of a specialty store that will offer specials, but is more about discovering new foods and recipes and tasting new things.

I’m probably more apt to hit up a local specialty store so I can ask questions and go directly home to cook/eat it, but I’m already inspired by all the lovely things on Gilt Taste. I can see this being great for smaller places that don’t have access to so many amazing food specialty stores. I’ll definitely be stopping back in to drool over food though. :)

Havaianas Online Sample Sale

Gilt Groupe is having a Havaianas flip flops sample sale tomorrow — Wednesday, May 25, 2011. They seem to be doing these every few months now, but if you need to stock up for summer, now’s your chance! From the looks of the preview there should be standard and slim in womens, mens, and childrens. I’m expecting to see some sold as pairs/sets too, which can be quite a deal… here’s to hoping.

More good news! Gilt brought back their referral credits. So when your friend buys, you get credit! Rumors are around that it’s anywhere from $15-$25, while the original credit when Gilt first started was $25, it’s nice to see them step it up again.

Jetsetter Invite: $100 Credit When Friends Buy

Jetsetter.com, Gilt Groupe’s travel section, just raised their referral rate from $25 to $100! So after a friend you invited to Jetsetter makes their first purchase you now get $100 towards your next hotel stay or trip instead of the standard $25 like the rest of Gilt Groupe. We spotted recent rates at Ace Hotels Portland at $79/night, so $100 could get you a long way toward a weekend getaway.

Reminder, when Jetsetter Travel first launched in September of 2009, I did some comparisons and found that they were typically about 30-40% off Expedia/Travelocity prices. So if you’re in the market for a 4 star hotel or a swanky vacation it’s worth a look.

Gilt Groupe is having yet another Orla Kiely handbag sample sale Friday — August 6, 2010. It’s been a few months since they had Orla Kiely handbags. And if all the previous sales are any prediction, you have about two minutes to log in and complete your purchase before the entire sale has a “sold out” banner across it. ;) The preview says there will be totes, canvas handbags and zip wallets. I’m hoping for the pear or stem prints!

She Hit Pause Studios Sample Sale

Gilt Groupe is having a She Hit Pause Studios sample sale today — Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 9am PST! I’m a huge fan of his artwork, and the prices on his website are great, so expecting some steals in this sale.

She Hit Pause is Matt Schwartz, who has been photographing his version of the pin-up girl for the past 10 years, snapping them with a Polaroid camera then transferring the image onto watercolor paper. The result is a body of dreamlike work whose sun-faded colors make you wonder if it’s a picture or your own hazy, half-recalled memory. All pictures come framed.
