costa-rica-caribbean-coastYou don’t have to be a jet-setter to experience exotic locales! So every Wednesday I’ll be posting the best travel deal I’ve found (including flights/hotels etc) for the “Trip of the Week”. This weeks trip is to Costa Rica in September!

Flight: Chicago to San Jose: $244 + other departure cities

GAP Adventures small-group tour: Go Costa Rica, 15 days: $599 (+$250 local payment) = $849 Sept 19 – Oct 3, 2009 (other departure dates available)

What’s included: all hotels, transportation
What’s not included: roundtrip flight to San Jose, Costa Rica, food, shopping, daily fun (zip lines, surfing etc.)

Total: $1093 + food & activities

Price per day: $72

costa-rica-itinerary-mapSmall-group adventure trips are a great way to see a country if you only have a specific amount of time (1-2 weeks etc) but don’t want to just hit an all-inclusive resort or hang out with 50 people on a gramps & gram tour bus. Most groups are 8-15 people with ages ranging from 18-60+ These trips are like a “vacation from your vacation” because the obnoxious logistics are all planned out (getting you from Point A to Point B & lodging), and then you do whatever interests you the rest of the time: shopping, surfing, snorkeling, zip lines, hiking, biking, sitting around at cafes or chilling at bars… you name it!

A few things I loved about Costa Rica: the beach (duh!), Puerto Viejo rasta town on the Caribbean coast, Monteverde for hiking, ziplines & rain forest, La Fortuna for rafting & canyoning, they’re the happiest nation, and beans & rice! Pura vida!
